Owl Creek Winery

The Owl Creek Winery and Vineyard in Cobden is most probably known for two things; the history behind it and its famous Apple Knocker Hard Cider. Owl Creek has the privilege of being the first commercial winery in the Shawnee wine trail, in fact the, then owner- Ted Wichmann, co-founded the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail itself! Once you stop in to Owl Creek Vineyard, one of the first things you may notice would be the live music coming in from the estate. The local artists are regularly given a chance to perform their music on the Owl Creek platform; this just so happens to be one of the many reasons why Owl Creek is one of the most loyal wineries in the Southern Illinois region.

Now owned by the Genung family, Owl Creek still has not changed its core values when it comes to the production of fine, unique wines for their audience of wine connoisseurs. Choose from a list of 10 high quality wines that are notorious for being one of the best on the Southern Illinois wine trail. Their grapes are of the highest quality and are grown in the Loire Valley, France, due to its similar climate and soil composition to the Shawnee Hills wine trail region. Their strong tradition of award-winning wines will surely win you over. If you are planning to visit the winery in the summer, then do not miss out on the opportunity to taste some of the best Sangria on the Southern Illinois wine trail.

It is evident that the Owl Creek Winery is here to stay for the long haul, with its rich history and tradition, the vineyard has not been wavered by the ever-changing values that other wineries may be adapting. Do not miss out on a chance to taste the delicious wines made with hard work and love from the wonderful French Hybrid grapes. Perhaps a sip of the crystal white Seyval Blanc paired with a filet mignon, straight off the grill, might be enough to have you keep visiting this historical winery again and again.
