Alto Vineyards

Step inside the picturesque countryside aesthetic of the Alto Vineyards located at the foothills of the breathtaking Shawnee Hills Wine Trail. Heralded as one of the largest producers of fine wine when compared to other Southern Illinois wineries, Alto Vineyards is also known as one of the oldest and most award winning vineyards in the region of the famous Shawnee Wine Trail. It recently celebrated 25 years in business and also shares the region with 11 other breathtaking wineries along the Southern Illinois wine trail.

Founded in 1988 by a family-business, Alto is known for starting a movement that has altered its landscape for the better. After the immense success their wines received, the Renzaglia Family decided to expand the business by opening a second tasting room near the Alto Pass in Champaign, Illinois, in 2001. The winery is famous for their home grown, high quality grapes and their award winning fine wines. A particular crowd pleaser is their Dry Chambourcin which also happens to be Alto Vineyard’s very own Paul Renzaglia’s personal favourite. If you are looking to couple up a lush and light wine to suit your meal, then look no further than the Semi-Dry Vidal Blanc, with its aphrodisiac inducing aromas of pineapple and pear. Not only is this the best wine to be paired with your equally light dishes, but it is also known for taking home, not one, but two gold medals for the Governer’s Cup White Table Wine.

When the day grows dark and particularly romantic, you can even enjoy the breathtaking sight that awaits you on the new outdoor deck resting atop the facility. Travellers get to share and take in the majestic beauty of the Shawnee National Forest and the Southern Illinois wine trail. So pack your bags and get ready for a gorgeous day of fine dining and the best wine Illinois has to offer.
